Archbishop of Ondo Providence/Diocesan Bishop, The Most Revd Simeon Oluwole Borokini has assured the President of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu that millions of Nigerians are solidly behind him.
He gave this assuarance at the 2nd session of the 14th Synod of the Akure Anglican Diocese which took place at St John’s Anglican Church, Oba Ile, on Friday.
Revd Borokini, while congratulating President Tinubu for his victory, added that 2023 general election is noted as the most keenly competed for presidential election in the history of Nigeria.
He, however, urged him to be magnanimous in victory by extending hands of fellowship to those that contested keenly with him on the last election and deal with insecurity, banditry, kidnapping, incessant strikes action in our institutions of learning, youth unemployment, erractic and poor power supply, poor transportation system in terms of bad roads among others.
“Since he has assumed the position of leadership and since we have known that corruption has eaten deep into the fabric of Nigerians, he should exonerate himself and try everything possible to reduce corruption”.
“I’ll appeal that any palliative that he’s going to give, he should do it urgently, whatever he is going to do to reduce suffering of people, he should do it as quickly as possible and he should not mingle with those that will give him bad advice, he should appoint the right people, people with like minds.
“It is also of great note to draw the attention of the government of the state to what our youths in the state are now involved in: this devilish act is popularly known as yahoo-yahoo. This trend is fast becoming a culture among our young ones who cut corners to become rich overnight and not through hard work and diligence to duty”.
“This is dangerous for the future of our young ones. We appeal to parents, teachers and priests to please preach against this evil acts and encourage our young ones to embrace hard work and diligence as pathway to Success Cum greatness; and not through this dubious means”.
He further appreciated the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu for his laudable works and progress in the State.
Revd Borokini prayed to God to restore Governor Akeredolu’s health back to normal.
Speaking on the theme of the Synod ” Do your best for the Lord”, Revd Borokini said that the reason for choosing it is that God expects best from us.
“There’s no half truth or half sin. And at this time, what God is expecting from us it to be perfect and the only way to be perfect is for us to do our best in everything that is good to please him. Do what will make God happy”.
The Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu congratulated Revd Borokini as well as the members of the church for witnessing this year’s Synod.
Speaking through his Special Adviser on special duties and union matters, Mr Dare Aragbaye, he commended the church and the people of the state for remembering him in prayers, adding that their prayers are working for him.
